Producer prices of wheat and corn have decreased – international markets are also under pressure

By the end of October, a moderate price decrease was experienced on the domestic grain market: table wheat was sold at an average producer price of 71.1 thousand forints/ton, while feed corn was sold at 72.8 thousand forints/ton, excluding VAT and shipping costs – according to the latest data from AKI PÁIR, which was shared by Agricultural Sector. This represents a 10 percent decline for wheat and a 7 percent decline for corn compared to prices a year earlier.

According to the International Grains Council (IGC) forecast in October, the world wheat harvest in the 2025/26 marketing year could be 827 million tonnes, 3 percent more than the previous season. Consumption is expected to increase to 820 million tonnes, while world trade volume could expand by 5 percent, to 208 million tonnes. Global stocks are also rising, with a closing stock forecast of 275 million tonnes by the end of the year.

According to Stratégie Grains, winter wheat can be sown on 21.6 million hectares in the European Union this year, with favorable weather conditions in most member states. Wheat is being sown on 985,500 hectares in Hungary, and 83 percent of the sowing has already been completed by the end of October. On international exchanges, the price of wheat ranged between 184–196 dollars/ton (CME/CBOT) and 188–194 euros/ton (Euronext/MATIF) in the last week of October.

The world corn harvest could be around 1.3 billion tons in 2025/26, which is an increase of nearly 5 percent compared to the previous season. Utilization could increase to 1.29 billion tons, and stocks could expand to 299 million tons. In the EU, however, a 4 percent yield decrease is expected, with an output of 56.5 million tons.

In France, yields were reduced by an early heat wave, while production increased in Poland and Italy under more favorable conditions. In Hungary, the harvest has already been completed on 87 percent of the planned area of ​​752 thousand hectares, with 3.3 million tons of corn harvested so far.

Sustainable ISCC NUTS II. certified feed corn was quoted at HUF 83.5 thousand/ton on the Budapest Stock Exchange at the end of October. On the Chicago Board of Trade, December corn futures were trading between $165 and $171 per ton, while on the Paris market they were trading between €183 and €187 per ton, indicating continued moderate price pressure on international grain markets.
