Decreasing production, subdued prices
The Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI) continuously monitors and publishes world trends in poultry and fruit/vegetable products. Their last report reveals that shrinking consumption directly affects the processing industry and shops. People buy les meat, consequently retailers order less and prices are subdued. In August, domestic poultry sales were down by 4 percent. Turkey consumption decreased by 18 percent compared to last year, at prices lower by 6 percent. Domestic turkey meat sales fell by 14 percent. Compared to August 2008, slaughter beef prices were down by 7 percent at HUF 496 per kilogram. The average domestic producer price of raw milk was below HUF 55 per litre.
