Descending beer consumption in the last two years
The economic crisis has reached the Hungarian brewing industry, the total sales of the brewers decresed by 7 percent compared to the results of previous year.
According to the informations of the Hungarian Brewery Association, the total sales of the Hungarian brewers in 2008 was 7.181 million hectoliters, while the previous year it was 7.7 million hectoliters – reports ProfitLine.hu. Export outstandingly, increased by 73 percent, but domestic sales decreased by around 10 percent. Due to the declining sales last year, the brewing industry paid 5 billion HUF less tax last year about 57 billion forints compared to the datas of the year before. Less beer ordered in restaurants than bought at the retail market. This is greatly decreases the profits of brewers and even at the end of the year in some plants a slight loss may occur in the results. The Hungarian Brewery Association expects the beer market continues to shrink due to the negative impact of economic environment. According to the projections beer consumption will decrease by a minimum of 5 percent this year.
