Shrinking real wages
At enterprises employing a minimum of 5 people and at budgetary institutions, gross average wages were 1.3 percent higher and net average wages improved by 1.6 percent in the first eight month of 2009, compared to the same period in 2008. KSH’s report also reveals that in the competitive sector real wages grew by 0.3 percent, at budgetary institutions they shrank by 7.9 percent. The number of people employed in January-August 2009 was 2,664,000 (740,000 in the budgetary sector and 1,835,000 in the competitive sector) – 4.1 percent less than in the same period a year earlier.
