Hungarian milk production descreases
Three EU member states face levies worth € 19 million for exceeding milk quota. Denmark, the Netherlands, and Cyprus were the three states –out of 27 members, which exceeded their milk production and sale in the 2009/2010 quota year. However, the illegal production in the European Union is constantly decreasing.
Exceeding and illegal production of milk triggered “super fines” for a total of €19 million, according to provisional figures published by the European Commission on 29 October 2010. This compares with the € 99mln triggered last year and € 340 mln the previous year. Following the increase in quotas agreed under the 2008 CAP Health Check, Italian production finished within quota for the first time, as global EU production finished some 7% below global quota volumes, compared with the 4,2 % margin in the 2008/09 quota year (April-March).
