The proportion of sugary soft drinks on the shelves of domestic stores is decreasing
In recent years, the supply of sugary soft drinks in domestic stores has decreased significantly, which is welcomed by dieticians. The trend was partly shaped by efforts to reduce global sugar consumption and partly by changes in consumer habits. As a result, more and more manufacturers are offering sugar-free or zero-calorie products made with sweeteners, the Infostart article points out.
Istváné Bikfalvi, secretary of the Hungarian Mineral Water, Fruit Juice and Soft Drink Association, told InfoRádio that the association undertook to significantly reduce sugar content years ago. The results speak for themselves: compared to the 2011 data, the sugar and calorie content of soft drinks has been reduced by almost half.
The president of the National Association of Hungarian Dieticians, Zsuzsanna Szűcs, also considers this change positive, but at the same time draws attention to the fact that the best thirst quencher is still clean water. According to him, the expansion of the market is also opening up the possibility of alternative soft drinks that contain neither sugar nor sweeteners, yet have a pleasant taste, thanks to fruit and plant extracts.
