“The exciting question is not that many people became billionaires, but how quickly,” emphasizes István Karagich. The Forbes rich list published today confirms the accuracy of Blochamps Capital’s predictions: in 2019, the company – the only one on the market – predicted that at least five Hungarians would exceed the 300 billion mark by 2025. The pace of the Hungarian elite’s wealth accumulation is a world record, and this process will not slow down next year – despite the elections – and a reorganization can be expected for the first time from 2027.

The latest Forbes rich list published in Hungary today confirmed that the usual annual forecast of Blochamps Capital, Hungary’s leading private banking consulting firm, models the development of the number and wealth of the domestic ultra-rich with the greatest accuracy. The company already drew attention to the fact that by 2025, five Hungarians would have a fortune exceeding 300 billion forints – other market analysts did not share at the time that such a wealth elite could be built. On the spring 2019 list of the top 100 richest people, only Sándor Csányi owned a fortune of over 300 billion. According to the latest Forbes list, the fifth-place finisher on the list, László Szíjj, has a fortune of 416.1 billion forints, while 300 billion forints calculated in 2019 amounts to a whopping 450 billion forints today – reminds István Karagich, Managing Director of Blochamps Capital.

Wealth concentration is not a new phenomenon in the global economy in itself, but its extent and especially its speed in Hungary are remarkable. Concentration trends have not only persisted in recent years, but have even accelerated, István Karagich pointed out.

The current list is thus not only about the expansion of the circle of the richest, but also about the extraordinary dynamics that characterize the enrichment of the Hungarian elite. A spectacular example of this is the wealth of Lőrinc Mészáros, which has grown nearly 150 times in ten years – faster than that of Elon Musk, who, according to a recent Forbes analysis, became the first person in the world to exceed $500 billion, and who can boast a “mere” 38-fold increase in the same period. Although in absolute terms the wealth of the Hungarian businessman still dwarfs that of the world’s leading billionaires, the rate of growth is extraordinary.

Although Hungary will hold parliamentary elections next spring, according to Blochamps Capital, this will not fundamentally affect the composition of the 2026 summer 50 and 100 wealth lists and the trends visible on them. The processes that have emerged in recent years are continuing, and further strengthening of wealth concentration can be expected.
