Hundreds of thousands of chickens are gassed because of the epidemic
Roughly 300,000 chickens are planned to be gassed in England, raising the number of birds killed by the coronavirus to over 400,000, as 110,000 chickens have already had to be anesthetized in Scotland, the Guardian wrote on 444.hu. The reason for the measure was that 75 workers in one of Britain’s largest meat processors were forced into quarantine after the coronavirus appeared at the Norfolk plant. Because of this, the plant has essentially shut down, so it doesn’t process animals either.
In Britain, approximately 20 million chickens are processed per week, the vast majority of which are in some large slaughterhouses, which have a capacity of 2 million chickens per week. Norfolk was such a plant, and the loss of performance resulting from the quarantine of workers is felt by the whole market, and the vast majority of chickens destined for this time cannot be slaughtered elsewhere.
