Switch to energy-saving and win! – Introducing MediaMarkt’s Energy Saving Program

BetterWay is MediaMarkt’s sustainability initiative, of which the Energy Saver program is also a part. As part of this, customers can replace their old household appliances with modern, energy-efficient devices. The energy savings achieved in this way can be verified within the framework of the Energy Efficiency Obligation System (EKR) introduced in Hungary in 2021, which MediaMarkt will adopt and enforce. The initiative thus contributes to the achievement of the energy efficiency and carbon emission reduction goals set out in the National Climate Plan.

Few people know that by law, all electronics retailers are obliged to take back used devices when purchasing a new product. MediaMarkt’s newly launched program builds on this by offering tangible, energy-saving alternatives to old devices. This program is not only beneficial for customers, but also for the environment: MediaMarkt takes care of the collection and waste management of old devices. In addition, energy-saving devices reduce energy consumption, thus also reducing households’ electricity and gas bills.

Change and win! As part of the Energy Savings Program, an exciting prize draw awaits participants: customers who exchange their old household appliance for a new one with high energy efficiency and the same functionality and purchase it in person at any MediaMarkt store will have a chance to win a valuable MediaMarkt gift card.

How does the program work?

1. Customers select the energy-saving household appliance that best suits their needs – whether it’s a washing machine, dryer, refrigerator, freezer, oven or dishwasher – and MediaMarkt’s consultants are happy to help with the choice and provide information about current promotions.
2. By purchasing a new appliance, customers transfer the energy savings achieved with the appliance to MediaMarkt in a simple agreement, so that the complex auditing and verification process can be carried out. MediaMarkt takes over and carries out this process in its entirety, so customers naturally have no further action to take in this regard.

In exchange for the transfer, they can participate in a prize draw (which does not exclude the use of other promotions).

1. You can participate in the program by handing in your old device, which can be done in the store, or you can request the convenient solution of home delivery, when MediaMarkt takes the old device from the customer’s home.
2. MediaMarkt’s energy auditor (Axing Zrt.) calculates the Certified Energy Savings, with which the customer contributes to achieving energy efficiency goals.
