Agrarian Chamber: We are champions in sweetcorn
Hungary is the largest sweetcorn producer in Europe and after the United States the second largest exporter in the world. In domestic production, super-sweet varieties have been spread, Hungarian sweetcorn products are sold worldwide, and 95 percent are sold abroad – the press release of the Agrarian Chamber wrote.
In the past few years, sweetcorn was cultivated on an average of 30-34 thousand hectares in Hungary; Two third of the 500-600 thousand tons of crops is processed in the canning industry, and one third is processed by the refrigeration industry. We are in the first place in Europe, followed by France (18 thousand hectares), Poland (6 thousand hectares), Italy (3 thousand) and Spain (4 thousand hectares). (NAK)
