In the Czech Republic, the growth of retail sales moderated
In an annual comparison, the growth of retail sales in the Czech Republic decreased to 1.6 percent in February from 3.2 percent in January, the Czech Statistical Office announced on Friday in Prague.
On a monthly basis, retail sales decreased by 0.8 percent in February. According to statisticians, the population’s expenditure on manufactured goods, food and fuel increased on an annual basis in February. “Internet stores and mail-order services contributed the most to the growth of retail sales in February,” Jana Gotvaldová, director of the statistical office, told journalists at the press conference in Prague. The revenues of these stores in February were 16.1 percent higher than a year earlier.
In February, the population spent 2.4 percent more on manufactured goods, 1.1 percent more on food, and 0.3 percent more on fuel than a year ago.
