Czech breweries do not ship to Russia
Czech breweries do not ship beer to Russia; most of them stopped exporting to Russia in the spring of 2022, shortly after the Russian attack on Ukraine, the CTK news agency wrote.
The CTK called on the breweries because the Russian RIA Novosti news agency reported on Monday, citing statistics, that last year German and Czech breweries shipped the most beer to Russia, and they also had the highest revenues from this.
According to the reactions of the Czech breweries, Czech beer now mainly reaches the Russian market through resellers.
“The moment we sell our beer to someone, we no longer have the opportunity to influence where it goes. That is why Czech beer is now also available in Russia,”
– Radek Tulis, a spokesman for the Humpolec brewery, explained the situation to the news agency.
According to the Czech Statistical Office, the value of Czech beer exported to Russia between January and October last year amounted to more than 819 million crowns, which is 63 million more than in the same period in 2021.
According to Czech statisticians, Russia was the third largest consumer of Czech beer after Germany and Slovakia. The available information shows that in the mentioned period, 33,100 tons of Czech beer were on the Russian market, which corresponds to 62 million half liters, as the Czechs call it “big beer”. “Small beer” is 0.3 deciliter for the Czechs. In Hungary, this corresponds to a mug or glass. The increase compared to 2023 is 27 percent, Lukás Kovanda, chief economist at Trinity Bank, told the news agency.
