Bread has become cheaper in Romania but prices declined by only the half of the preferential VAT rate
According to the Romanian Competition Council the price of bread fell by about 6 percent, with the introduction of the reduced VAT, but it could be 12 percent less expensive if the VAT reduction would be completely successful.
The Romanian government introduced the 9 percent discounted Value Added Tax (VAT) on the 1st of September 2013 in the case of bread and in case of similar bakery products instead of 24 percent general VAT. (MTI)
