CIES: abudance in food, yet 40 percent is never eatean
The 53rd World Food Business Summit in New York City, gathered 660 CEOs and senior managers of the world's food and consumer goods retailers and manufacturers, from 44 countries for three days of networking and thought-leadership.
If simplicity was the first ingredient for success, William V. Hickey, President & CEO, Sealed Air Corporation, urged for agility and an end to inertia in combating food waste. "Food has never been more in abundance. But if there is enough food, why do one in seven people go hungry? I believe we can feed all the world's hungry people without cutting down another rainforest. "The issue is not how much food we produce but how much we waste." Some 40% of food produced globally is never eaten. Antonio Coto, CEO, DIA, Latin America, said that the key to winning in a downturn was getting the team on your side, and he also shared other insights into Dia's mastery of the Argentinian crisis: buy forward and be the last to raise prices, sell solutions not products and market your message aggressively.
