GMO-free feed is the goal
It is important to give the animals non-genetically modified (GMO-free) feed – Feldman Zsolt, Deputy Minister of State of the Ministry of Agriculture told M1 news channel on Sunday.
Feldman Zsolt noted that the member states of the European Union can decide themselves whether they want to cultivate GMOs in their territory or not on the field of plant production and seed use.
In his view, the next challenge will be the issue of feeds and nutrition. He explained: The European and Hungarian animal husbandry is highly protein-dependent, which means that Europe cannot produce as much protein and protein crops as the animals require, therefore, exports are needed especially from overseas, which are genetically modified soybeans or soybean meal.
The goal is to give GMO-free feed to the animals as well – he added. (MTI)
