Bucharest requires a license to import eggs and poultry meat from Ukraine
Romania will include eggs and poultry meat in the list of food industry products that can only be imported from Ukraine with an import permit, Agriculture Minister Florin Barbu announced on Wednesday.
At the press conference held after the government meeting, the head of the ministry said: “another problem of Romanian producers has been solved”, this time in the poultry sector.
The producers rightfully objected that the Romanian market was flooded with eggs and poultry meat from Ukraine, which are sold at dumped prices, much cheaper than their production costs, he added.
In Romania, producers must comply with EU rules that make the cost of production 30 percent higher than for producers in Ukraine, who do not have to meet the same strict conditions.
That’s why Bucharest – in consultation with the representatives of the sector – uses the same method that it successfully used in the case of grain, flour and sugar imports to protect Romanian producers – explained Barbu.
