The attention of the European competition law community is focused on Budapest
The Economic Competition Office (GVH) will organize the 50th European Competition Day in Budapest on October 22, as an official program of the Hungarian EU Presidency. At the international conference, outstanding experts in European competition policy gather to discuss the current challenges of competition law. The main topics of the event are the relationship of sustainability and competitiveness with competition law, the experience of applying the Digital Markets Act (DMA), and the future opportunities and risks of artificial intelligence. GVH will also present the results of the market analysis of artificial intelligence within the framework of the conference.
The European Competition Day has been organized every six months since 2000, traditionally organized by the competition authority of the country holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union. The event is one of the most significant professional events of European competition policy, where the best experts in competition law share their knowledge and experience. Renowned and widely recognized experts such as Natalie Harsdorf, President of the Austrian Competition Authority, and Benoît Cœuré, President of the French Competition Authority, will give presentations at the Budapest conference.
The 50th European Competition Day, which will be held on October 22, 2024, will be opened by Balázs Csaba Rigó, president of the GVH, and the conference will cover three main topics. In the framework of the first, participants will discuss the relationship between competitiveness and sustainability and competition policy, examining how the latter can support both objectives without compromising its own core values.
The second topic of the conference is the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The European Union regulations entered into force more than a year ago, helping to prevent giant multinational platforms from abusing their market power. The participants of the event will be able to hear first-hand the experiences of the main users of the law.
