We can expect brutal apple prices
This year, we can expect a medium apple harvest, which is expected to be between 450 and 550 thousand tons. This means a slight decrease compared to the long-term average yield of around 600,000 tons.
In Tolna County, they investigated what can be inferred from the current prices regarding the evolution of apple prices, and came to the conclusion that apples may be more expensive in the near future. These prices can rise to HUF 600-750/kg in winter.
The basis for this assumption is strengthened by the fact that, due to the increase in production and storage costs, fewer apples went into storage, and the amount of processed juice and concentrate also set a record.
The spring frosts caused a lot of damage to domestic apple production this year, which is why it is expected that around 450-500 thousand tons of apples will be produced. On the domestic market, apples may also come from Polish and Italian producers, as higher state subsidies in these areas help cheaper sales.
