Weerts Logistics Park’s investment in eastern Hungary receives BREEAM Excellent rating
The Weerts Logistics Park (WLP) development in Ebeş has been awarded the BREEAM Excellent rating, one of the highest international recognitions for sustainable buildings. The nearly 55,000 square meter logistics hall met the requirements of the nine categories of the rating system with an overall score of 75.3% – from health and energy efficiency, to transport and material use, to waste management.
The investment is the first speculative logistics project in Eastern Hungary to be implemented by a foreign investor without a prior tenant requirement. The complex, built on a plot of more than 122,000 square meters, was created in a strategic location – close to Debrecen Airport, the BMW factory and the M35 motorway – and thus fits perfectly into the expanding industrial and logistics ecosystem of the region.
Energy-efficient solutions and advanced infrastructure
Sustainability was a key aspect when designing the hall: a heat pump heating system, intelligent LED lighting, modern HVAC solutions and solar panel preparation were also included in the technical content. The project also includes independent office blocks and a significant number of parking spaces – the latter developed in an environmentally friendly manner, on a separate plot.
The facility consists of four independent rental units, with 52 docks, sideloading facilities and 50 truck parking spaces. The high-ceiling, reinforced concrete frame building enables low overhead costs and energy-efficient operation.
WLP has achieved a high rating for the second time
This is the second high-level rating in the company’s Hungarian portfolio: previously, the warehouse building in Vecsés received a BREEAM Very Good rating. The company works with development practices based on Western European models and has created more than 200 thousand square meters of logistics buildings in Hungary in the past six years.
Local cooperation and green developments
WLP’s investments contribute to the development of regions not only by creating jobs, but also through community and environmental projects. For example, in Vecsés, noise reduction was solved with a humus mound, and in Nagytarcsa, nearly 440 new trees were planted to increase the green spaces of the settlement.
The BREEAM Excellent rating is expected to further increase the market attractiveness of the Ebes hall, as sustainable and cost-effective operation is now one of the main decision-making criteria for logistics tenants.
