EU poultry exports increase

According to the European Commission, the EU27’s poultry exports increased by 9% to 2 million tonnes in 2024 compared to the previous year. The EU’s largest target countries were the United Kingdom and Ghana (42% of total exports). Both countries saw 3.5% more poultry meat being shipped, while exports to Vietnam (+27%), Congo (+9%) and Saudi Arabia (+0.4%) also increased.

The EU’s poultry imports increased by 1% to 902,000 tonnes in 2024 compared to the previous year. Three-quarters of imports came from Brazil, Ukraine and the United Kingdom, with a total of 678,000 tonnes of poultry meat coming from the three countries, 2% less than in 2023. Imports from the first two countries decreased, while imports from the latter increased by 15 percent. At the same time, the volume of poultry meat from China (+23.5 percent) and Thailand (+6 percent) increased.

According to the Central Statistical Office (KSH), Hungary’s poultry meat exports decreased by 1 percent to 17 thousand tons in the first month of 2025 compared to the same period of the previous year

Within this, chicken meat exports increased by 9 percent to 13 thousand tons, while turkey meat exports decreased by 20 percent to 1.8 thousand tons. The largest target markets for poultry meat were Romania and Slovakia. Hungary’s poultry meat imports decreased by 16 percent to 5 thousand tons during the observed period. Within this, chicken meat imports decreased by 4 percent to 4 thousand tons, and turkey meat imports decreased by 49 percent to 217 tons. Most poultry meat came from Poland.
