Market of baking additives and dessert powders expanding
Sales of powder products are rising in general. Sales were up by 16 percent in terms of value in October 2007 – September 2008, compared to the preceding period, with the size of the market exceeding HUF7 billion. Baking additives account for 47 percent of the category, with sales dropping by 1 percent, compared to 2006-2007. Dessert powders account for 41 percent, while powders for preserving fruits represent 13 percent of the market. The largest segment within baking additives is vanillin sugar with 40 percent. Baking powder ranks second with 18 percent. Pudding accounts for two-thirds of the total quantity sold among dessert powders, while instant dessert represents 18 percent. The average price of baking additives was HUF 1 943 in August-September 2008, while that of dessert powders was HUF 1 551. Private labels accounted for 28 percent of the market of powders in the above period.
