Market expanding in terms of both value and quantity
Annual sales of spices, red paprika and flavourings exceeded HUF 18 billion in the April 2008-March 2009 period. Growth was 11 percent in terms of value and 2 percent in terms of quantity. Flavourings accounting for almost two-thirds of the market in terms of quantity are the largest segment, followed by spices with a market share of 15 percent and ground paprika with 13 percent. Mono spices represent the most expensive segment. Ground paprika produced a price rise of 14 percent in the above period. Sales of ground paprika show the lowest degree of concentration with traditional stores still accounting for 38 percent of total sales in terms of quantity. Grill spices show the highest degree of concentration with supermarkets and discounts accounting for 71 percent of total sales.
