“ Economic risks are increasing, uncertainty is becoming permanent, the world to which we have adapted our companies, business models, and systems no longer exists. Weather extremes have increased, and the business sector must also prepare for the effects of these. We must examine how these may affect business operations and how we can adapt and become resilient.
– said Attila Chikán Jr., President of BCSDH, in his welcoming speech.
“But it is not the same what conditions we have to adapt to, system-wide changes are needed to stop climate change. With its 158 member companies, BCSDH has now become indispensable in sustainability issues, and as a community of corporate leaders, it is committed to leading these changes stand.”
The organization aims to introduce sustainable corporate governance and its areas to more and more companies, and to encourage them to take action. In the past decade, it has held nearly 500 professional events, nearly 300 active corporate leaders have joined its initiatives in some form, and nearly 200 business practices that provide real answers to sustainability challenges have been presented. The Net Zero Advisory Board, established in 2021 and bringing together prominent players from the cross-sector, regulatory, scientific and business spheres committed to sustainability, is also doing irreplaceable work to facilitate and accelerate the process by which the Hungarian economy can become carbon neutral by 2050.
The “Leaders of the Future” program, which was launched 13 years ago and has already attracted 404 talented leaders, won the European Enterprise Development Award in Hungary in 2024 in the sustainable transition category. Here, as well as in the Action 2020 and Time to Transform 2030 Hungary programs, more than 300 civil, scientific and corporate experts were involved.
“The Circular Economy Platform is also doing important work, with which the BCSDH won the right to organize the European Circular Economy Hotspot to be held in Budapest on October 5-7, 2026, thus giving visibility to good domestic solutions and providing an opportunity to learn about the latest international results.”
– added Irén Márta, the executive director of the BCSDH, highlighting the novelties of this year and last year.
“In 2025, we launched the BCSDH Academy, which is unique in its kind. Our registered online knowledge platform is specifically designed for senior managers and decision-makers and addresses the areas of sustainability at a strategic level. The climate adaptation topic is now available, followed by the circular economy in 2026. Short, targeted videos recorded with renowned experts and the related concrete examples, case studies, implementation and decision-support materials help corporate decision-makers.”
The Sustainable Future Award, established in 2017, was presented for the ninth time, recognizing outstanding corporate, managerial and personal achievements in the field of sustainability.
While the ESG working group helps member companies understand environmental, social and governance information through ESG training and other services tailored to companies, they ensure that the aspirations of the corporate sector are represented as permanent guests of the National Sustainable Development Council (NFFT). These aspirations now go far beyond reducing greenhouse gas emissions: sustainability challenges such as preserving biodiversity or reducing social inequalities – understanding that there is no business and no future without nature or people – or the importance of adapting to existing changes are also gaining increasing attention in the Hungarian business sector.
“As for the future, our efforts need to be multiplied at the global, national and corporate levels, such as halting climate change, climate adaptation and resilience, even if the geopolitical tensions affecting our region and other regions of the world sometimes divert our focus.”
– emphasized Attila Chikán Jr.– “Only by rebuilding trust and new types of cooperation mechanisms can we achieve greater resilience and contribute to a more stable future, which is also an important task for the BCSDH.”
Péter Noszek, the newly elected member of the presidency, expressed his determination to support the work of the BCSDH with his experience and work, helping companies,
