REWE Group developes logistics basis
Rewe Group in Germany is investing more than EUR660 million into the separation of its discount logistics from its full-range logistics.
With the re-opening of its modernised
distribution centre in Buttenheim, Bavaria, Rewe has started its new
structure as a full-range only supply chain. Buttenheim is the first
distribution centre to supply Rewe’s full-range stores with all
products out of one site. By 2011, Rewe wants to build 11 new
distribution centres and additionally re-build five existing sites.
Rewe has praised the separation of discount and full-range logistics
as an important step for the environment saying that the trucks will
travel shorter distances in the future.
