Scandalous Lidl opening in Cyprus
Lidl expands:, the German discount chain last Thursday handed over seven stores in the Republic of Cyprus, and expected to open two more units this month. Analysts described the fast expansion as aggressive, because Lidl with its low prices, puts a serious impact on other market players, especially on small stores.
The opening of the stores, however, did not go smoothly. The Cyprus Mail newspaper reported directly about chaos in one shop in Nicosia. A huge crowd gathered into the store so security staff closed the entrance, and for a time did not permit any new customers to enter. The locals gathered into the crowd resented the situation, half-hour lines were formed at the counters and serious traffic jams have developed, because of the crowded parking lot – reports penzcentrum.hu.
