Wine therapy, but not with a hat – what is it?
Pharmacologist Joseph Vercauteron of the University of Bordeaux first discovered in 1970 that grapes contain the most potent antioxidant present in nature: polyphenol. More than twelve years later, the World Health Organization showed that France had the lowest death rate from heart disease among industrialized nations in the western world, despite their habits of smoking, eating fatty food and shunning exercise. They attributed this to the widespread daily consumption of wine in France; thus, the French Paradox.
