Innovation in wine
When the consumers of wine change, wine itself needs to change. But is wine changing, or is the product changing? Wine is not a product before it is packaged and labelled a presented in the market. So what are the changes taking place? To start with, packaging has changed. Bottles are no longer the only form of packaging used for wine, as bag in box packaging is becoming increasingly popular for cheaper wines. In addition to plastic corks, glass corks have also appeared, but screw closures are also in widespread use. Above a certain price, premium quality corks are required. Metal foil is no longer used on bottlenecks and capsules are often transparent. Packaging is ideal ground for designers. Labels have assumed multiple functions. Brand name is no longer the only thing displayed on labels, as graphics have appeared in order to help in creating an atmosphere. Only of course, if there is a label. In some cases, labels have disappeared altogether and have been replaced by transparent foil with only one or two words on it. If we want wine to function as a gift, we have an enormous variety of decorative packaging alternatives like presentation boxes, neck labels, or wax seals to choose from.
