BMI: Moderate expansion in May

The seasonally adjusted May value of the Purchasing Manager Index (BMI): 51.8.

Compared with the previous May values, this year’s value is lower than the long-term average for this month (52.5) ​​and also below the average of the previous three years’ values ​​for this month (54.1).

Most of the sub-indices examined in the survey decreased. Most of the sub-indices are in the shrinking range.

The employment index is 0.4 percentage points lower this month, and its value again indicates a slight contraction. In the past period, the index hovered around 50.0 points, which decreased this month (49.1).

The seasonally adjusted May value of the Purchasing Manager Index (BMI): 51.8. In May, the respondents reported a slow expansion compared to the previous month.

After the moderate expansion in April, we can observe a slower rate of growth this month, the BMI index remained unchanged and is currently above 50.0.

Most of the indices decreased, four indices are in the recovery range. The volume of new orders increased, the index value decreased by 2.7 percentage points. The production volume indicates an expansion again, but this month’s index value decreased by 0.5 percentage points compared to the previous month.

Employment is below 50 points, the index value decreased by 0.4 percentage points. The transport lead time index is below 50.0 again, its value fell by 2.1 percentage points.

The index value of purchased stocks decreased by 2.3 percentage points compared to April. Among the foreign market indicators, the import index fell by 2.8 percentage points, the export index fell by 4.9 percentage points. Purchase prices rose, the value of the index increased by 4.8 percentage points compared to the previous month. The purchase volume index decreased by 1.7 points. The index of finished product stocks decreased by 1.5 percentage points. The BMI index in May 2024 did not change compared to the value in April (51.8). May is considered a below-average month (the long-term average value measured since 1995 is 52.6; the May values ​​are 52.5). The seasonally adjusted BMI index value measured now is the ninth lowest value this month.
