BMI: Deepening contraction in October
The seasonally adjusted October value of the Purchasing Manager Index (BMI): 47.6.
Compared with the previous October values, this year’s value is lower than the long-term average for this month (52.2) and also below the average of the values for this month of the previous three years (52.1).
Most of the sub-indices examined in the survey decreased. Two of the sub-indices are in the expansion range.
The employment index increased this month, but its value again indicates a contraction. In the past period, the index hovered around 50.0 points, which is higher this month than in September (48.5).
The Purchasing Manager Index in October
The seasonally adjusted October value of the Purchasing Manager Index (BMI): 47.6. In October, respondents reported a further, deepening contraction compared to the previous month. After the moderate expansion of the spring period, we can observe a slowdown in the domestic manufacturing industry since June. The BMI index has decreased and remains below 50.0. Most of the indices fell. The volume of new orders is lower, the index value decreased by 4.5 percentage points. The production volume increased, but the index value decreased by 1.5 percentage points compared to the value of the previous month. Employment is again below 50 points, the index value increased by 0.6 points.
The transport lead time index is again below 50.0, its value is 0.6 percentage points higher this month. The index value of purchased stocks decreased by 0.6 percentage points compared to September. Among the foreign market indicators, the import index fell by 4.9 percentage points and the export index by 0.7 percentage points. Purchase prices rose, the value of the index decreased by 1.0 percentage points compared to the previous month.
The index of purchase volume decreased by 3.6 points.
The index of finished product stocks rose by 0.9 percentage points. The October 2024 BMI index decreased compared to the September value (49.4). October is considered a below-average month (the long-term average value measured since 1995 is 52.6; the October values are 52.2). The seasonally adjusted BMI index value measured now is the fourth lowest value this month.
