Organic eating: the key to the future or passing fad?
Why is the proportion of organic products rising rapidly abroad, while in Hungary it remains the same? Is it because they are too expensive? Is society still unwilling to trust these products? A 2009 study by Gfk Hungária on eating habits revealed that health-conscious eating is highly dependent on income. It was in the 1990s that most people claimed they paid attention to eating healthy; since 2001 this proportion has been declining and stalled at a standard level. Every second Hungarian is now convinced that they eat normally. When consuming food, the most important aspect is that it should be tasty. When buying food, the price/value ratio is the most important for us. To be organic is only the 14th most important aspect when buying food products (in 2001 it ranked 10th). The food scandals in the 2000s affected organic products negatively. What is more, there is no segment in society that promotes healthy eating and organic products.
