They closed a loophole in the Price Monitor
he Economic Competition Office (GVH) and the working group that created the system are constantly developing the online Price Monitor. Thanks to this, retailers who have reduced the price of certain food products in only one or two of their stores can no longer gain an advantage in the daily price competition. From now on, when displaying the lowest price on individual product cards, the system takes into account the prices used in 80% of the stores of the given chain to determine the lowest price.
Some of the retailers providing data to the online Price Monitoring System available at www.argyelo.gvh.hu do not use uniform pricing, but different prices for each store. There was a chain of stores that reduced the price of certain foods in only one or two stores in order to be the cheapest in the Price Monitoring System. The working group that created the Price Monitor looked for a solution to this loophole in order to ensure that this practice does not mislead consumers in any way.
In the case of retailers with non-uniform pricing, the “from to” mark will still be found on the individual product cards, but from now on, when displaying the lowest price on the product cards, the system will take into account the prices used in 80% of the stores of the given chain to determine the lowest price. In this way, it can be ruled out that some small retailers, by reducing the price of a product in only one or two of their stores, will deceptively present themselves as the store chain offering the lowest price in the given product category.
