Estée Lauder closes its Romanian technology center
Estée Lauder is closing its Romanian technology center, profit.ro reports, based on the company’s announcement.
The American beauty company opened its Bucharest center for IT developments in 2023. This was the company’s third such center, after those in Long Island and Kuala Lumpur.
“As part of our ongoing efforts to optimize our global operations and better serve our consumers, The Estée Lauder Companies has made the difficult decision to close the Bucharest Technology Center,”
– announced Suzanne Sterns, the company’s global communications director. The decision will result in the loss of 150 jobs.
Behind France’s L’Oréal, Estée Lauder is the world’s second-largest cosmetics company. The company’s management decided to implement the collective layoffs after global sales fell by 8 percent and gross profit by 5 percent in the 2025 financial year due to falling demand.
The Bucharest technology center is operated by ELC Digital Technology SRL. Last year, the company achieved a pre-tax profit of 7.785 million lei (586.210 million forints) on sales of 128.539 million lei (9.678 billion forints).
