Wizz Air closes its Vienna base
Wizz Air will gradually withdraw from Vienna Airport by March 15, 2026, Airportal has learned.
The discount airline will relocate two of its aircraft to other bases at the start of the winter schedule on October 26, while flights to Bilbao and London-Gatwick will be discontinued. The remaining three aircraft will be withdrawn from Schwechat by next spring, so all routes from the base will be discontinued.
The company will provide passengers with tickets for the affected flights with the option of rebooking or refunding, while employees working at the Vienna base will be offered relocation to other Wizz Air bases.
In parallel with the withdrawal, the airline will open a new base in Bratislava this autumn, just 50 kilometers from Vienna. Two Airbus A321neo aircraft will launch 13 new routes from the Slovak capital, and a domestic flight has also been announced.
The decision will strengthen Wizz Air’s strategy in the Central European market, while completely eliminating its presence in Vienna.
