Half of the Hungarian pig breeders may close
In one year, half of the Hungarian pigs may disappear. Today it looks like that half of the pig breederies have to be closed, because they are unable to meet the environmental standards until the end of the year deadline. The feed price explosion may also lead to the drastic reduction of the stock.
If the current rules remain, the half of the Hungarian pig breederies have to be closed. In addition, the price increase of animal feed also causes huge financial damages to the pig and poultry sector – said Sákán Antal, the president of the Hungarian Association of Pig Breeders to Agrárszektor.hu.
This means that instead of the roughly 3 million, only 1.5 million pigs will be breded in Hungary and the pig imports should be increased to 1.5 million, which can reach the 3 to 3.5 million – reports szabadfold.hu.
