Wienerberger launches concrete tiles in Hungary
Last April, Wienerberger announced that it would build a plant in Hejőpapi, which will produce large-sized concrete roof tiles and their accessories using the most modern technology available in Europe. Although the high-tech concrete roof tile factory is expected to start production only at the end of the year, Wienerberger concrete roof tiles will already be available to Hungarian consumers thanks to imported products.
Among ceramic roof tiles, Tondach, which belongs to the Wienerberger group, is already the most significant brand in our country, and now the company is entering the concrete roof tile market in Hungary. Meanwhile, the company is currently building what it aims to be the world’s most modern concrete roof tile factory in the settlement of Hejőpapi, thereby further strengthening Hungary’s regional role in the building materials industry. The facility will produce 3 million square meters of roof tiles per year, which would be enough to cover the roof surface of more than 300 football fields. The factory will produce mainly for export, contributing to the growth of the Hungarian economy and innovation in the construction industry.
The construction is progressing according to preliminary plans, and the installation of the machines will begin soon. While the first tiles have not yet left the Hejőpapi production line, the company is making the most popular wavy model available to its domestic customers as part of a pre-introduction. The concrete tile, which will debut under the name Wienerberger Icon, is currently coming from the group’s German factory, and its shape is completely identical to the one that will later be produced in Hejőpapi.
“We are constantly striving to offer our customers modern and high-quality building materials, thus ensuring the durability and aesthetic value of buildings. With the introduction of the Wienerberger concrete tile, we can address new customers who have not yet found a suitable choice from our roofing tile range. In addition, after the handover of the Hejőpapi factory, Wienerberger will be the only market player in Hungary that can supply the market with both ceramic and concrete roof tiles from domestic production,” said János Potos, member of the board responsible for sales and marketing.
Concrete roof tiles have been popular in Hungary for a long time due to their durability and weather resistance, as they provide long-term protection for roofs while ensuring an aesthetic appearance. Wienerberger, which is present in 28 countries, is known for its Tondach ceramic roof tiles in Hungary, but it also has decades of experience in the production of concrete roof tiles in other countries. During the development of its products, it has more than 200 years of experience in the production of building materials and the application of the most modern technologies, which is now also available in Hungary.
Icon roof tiles have been available in various colors and surface treatments since the beginning, and the range will be expanded with additional models and colors later.
