The Consumer Protection Authority’s 2026 inspection program was presented
The National Trade and Consumer Protection Authority (NKFH) has presented the 2026 Inspection and Inspection Program, which includes 73 inspection areas. The program was presented by Bence Gerlaki, State Secretary of the Ministry of National Economy, in Budapest.
The 2026 inspection plan includes 27 basic inspections, 17 seasonal, 16 priority government and 13 innovative inspections. The inspection areas cover consumer protection, trade supervision, food safety, market surveillance and laboratory inspections.
More than 10,600 inspections were carried out this year, 40% of which were basic inspections. The areas inspected included, among others, online sales, inspection of public services, playground equipment and universal battery chargers. 33% of the inspections were priority, 21% were seasonal and 6% involved new, innovative areas.
It was announced at the press conference that the package of legislative amendments affecting consumer protection regulations is currently in parliamentary procedure. The draft includes, among other things, the extension of conciliation board procedures, the sanctioning of SMEs with warnings and the introduction of bail-out options. The Parliament is expected to vote on the package of proposals in December.
Among the priorities for 2026, the protection of vulnerable consumers, the examination of the online space, the control of green claims, the examination of complaint handling and warranty practices will be given a prominent role. Market surveillance will affect several product groups – for example, aerosol products, personal protective equipment, airfryer devices and electrical products.
Food safety inspections will be carried out throughout the food chain: in shops, pastry shops, catering establishments and markets. The authority will, among other things, examine the origin and traceability of vegetables and fruits, and also monitor the operation of food delivery companies and mobile catering companies.
