Highly pathogenic bird flu has also appeared in Békés county
The laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) detected the presence of a highly pathogenic bird flu virus in a sample taken from a poultry farm in Békés county. The liquidation of the affected stock is in progress.
Full and high-level compliance with biological safety regulations is essential throughout the country. This time, the virus appeared in Békés county, in a poultry farm on the outskirts of Orosháza, holding roughly 7,400 mallard geese. The herd was asymptomatic, and the Nébih laboratory detected the H5N1 subtype of the virus from swab samples taken before shipment. In accordance with official regulations, at the same time as the liquidation of the affected stock, the epidemiological investigation to reveal the causes also began, and the specialists designated a 3 km radius protection and extended surveillance (observation) area around the farm.
The most effective way to protect against the spread of the virus is still careful, thorough and consistent compliance with the epidemic prevention regulations
The migration of wild birds poses a high risk of the virus entering poultry farms. In our country, the mandatory confinement of poultry is currently only mandatory in high-risk counties, while indoor feeding and drinking, as well as the storage of feed and litter in a closed place, is a requirement throughout the country. All further information about bird flu is available on the thematic subpage of the Nébih portal.
