Bird flu has also appeared in Békés County
The laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) detected the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus in the animals of another duck farm. With the outbreak in the settlement of Tótkomlós, the epidemic has already reached Békés county. The liquidation of the affected goose population, as well as the designation of protection and observation areas, took place immediately.

In the population of about 3,080 mallard geese located in the settlement of Tótkomlós in Békés County, the increase in mortality and nervous system symptoms drew the attention of the livestock keeper to the possible appearance of bird flu. Nébih’s laboratory confirmed the presence of the H5N1 subtype of the virus in the farm’s animals. The animal health specialists immediately started the liquidation of the affected herd, in order to prevent the further spread of the epidemic. Specialists have designated a 3 km radius protection zone around the affected farm, as well as an extended surveillance zone.
There is no relaxation in the rules
The restrictions introduced due to previous outbreaks of bird flu are still in force, as well as the mandatory swab tests in the virus-free areas of Bács-Kiskun and Csongrád-Csanád counties. In addition to the above, there is a mandatory tampon test prior to the technological movement of waterfowl throughout the country.
Nébih emphatically draws the attention of poultry farmers to do everything to protect their flocks, to keep the animals locked up and to strive to strictly comply with the epidemic prevention regulations!
