Food prices stepped on the brake
In March 2010, the monthly average consumer price increase was 0.7 percent, but compared with March 2009 prices were up by 5.9 percent On average, prices were 6 percent higher in the first three months – reported KSH. In comparison to February 2010, food prices grew by 0.9 percent. Seasonal product prices went up by 8.2 percent. Compared with prices in March 2009, food prices were up by 2.3 percent, with coffee and egg prices growing significantly, by 11.6 and 10.4 percent, respectively.
Fuel prices went up by 25.5 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco augmented by more than 11 percent. Medicines and medical products cost 8.7 percent more. The prices of services grew at the average rate. Old age pensioners’ annual and monthly consumer price indexes were 100.7 and 104.8 percentage, respectively.
