BDO: The Hungarian hotel industry will slowly recover from the coronavirus
Although the official restriction has been lifted, domestic hotels will be plagued for many months by the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. Despite the opening, the extremely low level of occupancy compared to the season, and the almost complete absence of foreign guests, pose a serious challenge to the sector, despite the opening, which poses a 40-45 percent drop in occupancy.
The lifting of hotel restrictions practically hit the hotel industry at the beginning of the tourist high season. Given that the majority of the annual result is generated during the summer, especially in the case of rural hotels, most accommodation establishments will restart their services immediately if they can. In the case of some hotel chains, not all units open immediately, because owners renovate them.
