Barcelona remains a popular destination, but over-tourism is causing concern among locals

Within Europe, Barcelona is one of the most popular destinations that attracts tourists like a magnet. At the same time, local residents are increasingly protesting over-tourism.

European consumers are increasingly spending on lasting experiences instead of material goods. According to the SpendingPulse Destinations report, experiences already account for 12% of travel spending. For example, English tourists spend 16% of their money on nightlife, which is much higher than the global average (10%), the Money Center points out in a recent article.
