Bird flu has also reached Baranya county, and the national chief veterinarian has introduced new strict measures
The presence of bird flu virus was detected in Baranya County by the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) laboratory. The liquidation of the affected stock and the epidemiological investigation are in progress. In addition, due to the current epidemic situation, the authority ordered strict measures in the counties of Bács-Kiskun and Csongrád-Csanád.
The increase in mortality in the fattening turkey colony of about 5,500 in the Szárász settlement in Baranya County raised suspicions among the livestock keepers. The Nébih laboratory confirmed the H5N1 subtype of the virus from the dead animals. The affected staff is being liquidated. The experts designated a protective zone with a radius of 3 km around the farm, and established a surveillance (observation) zone with a radius of 10 km. In addition, strict measures were necessary due to the rapid spread of the highly pathogenic bird flu epidemic in Bács-Kiskun County. The animal health authority extended the protection and monitoring districts to the entire area of Bács-Kiskun county and to a significant part of Csongrád-Csanád county.
In the areas of Csongrád-Csanád county not affected by the restriction, it has prohibited the introduction of all utilized waterfowl stocks
In addition, within the protection and monitoring areas of the counties of Bács-Kiskun and Csongrád-Csanád, it is mandatory to immediately slaughter the healthy, hanging stock (skinny waterfowl flocks), and to liquidate the flocks that are not yet suitable for slaughter due to their age with state compensation. Another measure is that the introduction of poultry and other captive birds to fairs, as well as the holding of ornamental bird and pigeon exhibitions, is prohibited in the entire territory of Hungary.
