Balaton’s free beach was closed
The Veszprém County Government Office temporarily closed the Somos free beach from August 16 due to the deterioration of the water quality of Lake Balaton.
According to some reports, the presence of harmful bacteria was detected in the water. The decision was announced by Imre Tósoki, the mayor of Tihany, and the news was also shared on the local tourism Facebook page.
Several information boards have been posted at the site, which draw attention to the temporary closure of the beach. The competent authorities constantly check the water quality, and as soon as they deem it safe to bathe, they allow the reopening of the beach in a separate decision. However, no such notification had been received as of late Saturday evening.
