Lake Balaton boating: the high season starts with discounts and more frequent sailings
Balatoni Hajózási Zrt. (Bahart) is expecting a high-traffic peak season, increasing its services on its busiest routes, adding a new route to its scheduled shipping service and offering numerous discounts to its family and cyclist passengers in the summer peak season – the company told MTI on Thursday.
According to the statement, passenger traffic in June exceeded the same period of the previous year by 7 percent, and the company’s ships transported 5 percent more bicycles. By the end of June, more than 157 thousand people had already traveled on the scheduled ships on Lake Balaton, 51 thousand had boarded a pleasure boat, more than 504 thousand passengers had used the ferries, and the transport of approximately 71 thousand bicycles was registered – the state- and municipally-owned company informs.
They wrote that, based on the outstanding passenger and bicycle traffic in the pre-season, the ferry services will be significantly expanded on the busiest routes in the high season. There are now ten daily services between Siófok and Balatonfüred. Several ships also depart between Balatonföldvár and Tihany, and scheduled boats also run between Fonyód and Badacsony in the evening hours.
Newly introduced is the introduction of new, direct, non-stop triangular services between Révfülöp, Balatonboglár and Balatonlelle. From the north coast, there are now two daily services from Balatonalmádi and Alsóörs to Tihany and Balatonfüred.
The ferries run from Szántód between 7:00 and 23:30, from Tihany between 7:15 and 23:45, every half hour, or more frequently in case of heavy traffic – the announcement says.
Bahart’s information also covers discounts: children aged 6-11 who present a Kajla passport can travel free of charge on scheduled boats until the end of the holiday. The price of a family ticket has decreased by more than 10 percent compared to the previous year, and can be redeemed for one child, and can also be used for pleasure boats and children’s boats.
The price of a bicycle ticket has also decreased by 10 percent, and there are more bicycle-friendly scheduled boats. In addition to ferries, people with disabilities can now travel free of charge on inter-settlement routes.
