Bacon-flavoured mouth-spray – Video of the day
Scope Bacon was an April Fools’ Day prank, Rishi Dhingra, marketing director for P&G’s North American oral care division, said Monday. But the huge social media response from the YouTube campaign and related promotions are worth noting, and Dhingra didn’t rule out the company giving additional consideration to the product.
Scope has five (real) flavors, and a new one will be unveiled in September.
“This time around we’re having a little bit of fun with our brand,” Dhingra said. “Never say never. You never know what will happen as we review our customer reactions.”
P&G began developing the bacon-flavored mouthwash concept six weeks ago as a ploy knowing that the unlikely product would attract national attention for the parent brand. The company was right: In five days, more than 1 million people clicked on the Scope Bacon video or ads on YouTube and Facebook
