Inspectors from the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) conducted an inspection at a game processing facility. The experts suspended the operation of the plant with immediate effect due to violations that posed a food safety risk found during the inspections. More than 3 tons of food were withdrawn from circulation and their official seizure was ordered.

Inspectors from Nébih encountered serious deficiencies that posed a food safety risk during an inspection at a game processing plant in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County. The painting of the building’s metal structure and the covering of the ventilation openings were damaged in some rooms and showed corrosion. Packaging materials were also stored in several rooms – not intended for this purpose – and were placed on the floor without a mat. In one of the smokehouses, scrap, furniture, and an unused refrigerator were stored. On one of the workbenches, a plastic cutting board was secured with rusty carpenter’s clamps, and in one of the rooms, the inspectors found a contaminated hacksaw not intended for food use.

The hot water instrument disinfectants in several rooms of the plant were not filled with water and were not connected to the electrical network. A small trash can was placed on one of the instrument disinfectants. The equipment was turned on during the inspection, but due to a temperature display error in some of them, their proper functioning could not be checked. The conditions for hygienic hand washing were not provided in several rooms. The taps of the hand washing machines were missing in several places. In some places, rusty water flowed from the tap after opening, and in others it did not work at all.

The premises for collecting and storing animal by-products were not used for their intended purpose, and they did not have the appropriate containers required for their collection. The operator did not properly ensure the disposal of the resulting animal by-products in accordance with legal requirements, temporarily buried some of them in the area opposite the plant, intending to dispose of them only later. Furthermore, none of the plant’s employees had a valid occupational health certificate, therefore the authority prohibited the employees present at the time of the inspection from working.

The inspectors suspended the plant’s activities with immediate effect due to the circumstances posing a serious food safety risk. The authority immediately withdrew 27 items, exceeding 3 tons in quantity, from circulation, and food deemed unfit for consumption by law due to the lack of a documented meat inspection. Furthermore, it prohibited their placing on the market and use, and ordered the recall of items produced in the food business facility after 06. 10. 2025, which still had an adequate shelf life or quality preservation period.

The facility was allowed to continue its operations after the elimination of the violations and after a repeated official inspection.
