Last active swine fever outbreak eliminated in Arad County
The last active swine fever outbreak has been eliminated in Arad County, Romania, near the Hungarian border, and no new cases have been reported for a month, Marcel Rosu, director of the Animal Health and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) in Arad County, said on Monday.

The director told Agerpres news agency that the last active outbreak was in the settlement of Varsánd (Olari), where 5,600 animals were culled to contain the outbreak. No new cases have been reported in Partium County in the past month, so authorities have officially declared the outbreak over. Marcel Rosu said that all previously introduced precautions have been lifted and the affected pig farm can resume selling pork. There are therefore no restrictions in place in Arad County, but large meat companies are still under surveillance.
There are 22 large pig farms in the county, breeding a total of about 60 thousand animals
The Varsánd outbreak was detected by the authorities in the second half of November. African swine fever resurfaced in Arad County in October, when the disease was detected in Arad and Nagylak. Five outbreaks were reported this season, four in breeding animals and one in wild boars.
