The OECD expects the strongest economic downturn in peacetime in the last century
The world economy will suffer its strongest decline in peacetime this year as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, before returning to a growth trajectory next year, according to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) forecast.
In its most recent Wednesday issue of Economic Outlook, the Paris-based organization outlined two scenarios in an unusual way. In the more favorable case, the pandemic will go down by one wave, in the more pessimistic scenario, a second wave is expected this year, which will have much more serious economic consequences.
