According to UNIQA Insurance, these are things worth considering when renewing home insurance

The economic decisions of the past year – including the stabilization of insurance premiums or the introduction of a 3 percent interest-subsidized home loan – have created an environment in the home insurance market that makes it particularly important for customers to review their existing home insurance. In this sense, this year’s home insurance campaign can primarily be about how we can get more and better for our money. But it is equally important to minimize the risks posed by underinsurance, UNIQA Insurance draws attention to the fact.

The misconception that the home insurance offered by individual insurers includes largely the same services is still strong today. Therefore, many people find it difficult to convince themselves that it is advisable to review and, if necessary, renew their contracts, as this can save them up to tens of thousands of forints on the annual premium, and on the other hand, they can gain additional significant benefits through coverage limits, additional services and the quality of administration.

The range of coverage included in insurance contracts is quite wide and goes well beyond the now classic types of damage. Although pipe bursts, water, glass and storm damage are among the most frequently reported damage events at UNIQA Insurance – their annual total exceeds 15 thousand – and in terms of damage value, fire damage can be considered the most significant (since in such cases even the entire movable and immovable property can be destroyed), services that can provide extra added value in everyday life are becoming increasingly appreciated. This could include, for example, emergency assistance, which ensures the immediate dispatch of specialists in cases where roofing, glazing, water, gas, heating installations, lock repair, blockage removal or electrical installation suddenly becomes necessary. But the so-called cover for movable property taken with you is also popular among customers, which protects valuables temporarily taken from home outside the apartment and can cover up to 200 thousand forints for damages incurred.

In addition to the content of home insurance, it is increasingly important that the insured can manage their affairs as simply as possible, with as little effort as possible, and transparently, and that they can access the compensation amount as quickly as possible if necessary. That is why it is now of paramount importance what digital solutions an insurance company uses to support its customers. Easy transparency and full transparency can be facilitated, for example, by an advanced claims status interface, thanks to which clients can track the status of their report, the currently running tasks, and when further action and claim payment are expected. However, the claims status interface is almost a basic function at UNIQA Insurance, as it also supports claim filers with modern tools such as the extremely flexible video remote inspection, or the artificial intelligence-based claims settlement platform, where the company’s AI assistant, the thorough and empathetic NiQA, helps those in trouble.

It is also worth considering that the real estate market is changing dynamically, with the value of properties and reconstruction costs increasing – so the existing insurance amounts in many cases no longer cover the real claim payment requirement. This change can be tracked with a new contract, and insureds can save themselves from the risk of underinsurance.

The current insurance environment is particularly favorable for customers to renew their home insurance or change insurers on the best possible terms. Since premiums remain unchanged until the end of June 2026 as they were in December 2024, while coverages have continued to increase (to avoid underinsurance), they can ensure the protection of their homes with insurance with an above-average price-value ratio. In addition, it is worth reviewing the amount of the deductible and whether the insurance amount is in line with the larger-scale renovations and reconstruction costs of the past period, but you should also pay attention to what coverages and services your existing contract includes and what additional benefits a new insurance policy may bring.
