60 percent of the EU citizens spend summer holiday in their own country
The majority of the European Union citizens go on holiday during the summer season between June and September, and most of them spend the holiday in their home country, while almost 40 percent of summer season tourism nights were spent abroad – Eurostat’s survey receals.
In particular, July and August are the two months when EU residents spend the most tourism nights during the year.
Divided by age groups, more than a third of all tourism nights for residents aged 15-29 and 30-64 are spent during July and August, while this share fell to around a quarter for residents aged 65 and over, who preferred to spread their holidays more evenly throughout the year.
For residents of a majority of EU member states, the summer season represents more than half of all annual tourism nights, except in Malta, Finland, Denmark, Romania, the United Kingdom, Germany and Estonia – Eurostat added. (MTI)
